Day 9 - Orson Hyde Memorial Garden

The Orson Hyde Memorial Garden is on the Mount of Olives, in between the BYU Jerusalem Center and the Garden of Gethsemane.

It is a thin strip of land with a beautiful rock path that switches back and forth from the top to the bottom of the Garden.  The LDS Church leases the land and then donates it to the city, from what the gardener told us.  He said the Church pays way too much for it, and shouldn't have to pay that much.
The beautiful view of Jerusalem's old city from the top of the Garden.

An amphitheater area that BYU Jerusalem students or LDS tour groups can use.

Taking in a peaceful moment on the Mount of Olives.  It is a gift to find a peaceful, relatively quiet place in this city full of traffic, tourists, and honking horns.

The very nice Muslim gardener who showed me a shortcut back up the hill (my adventurous self wanted to see what was at the very bottom of all those switchbacks and just how far down they went).  He chatted with me and Mom for about 45 minutes.  Very pleasant fellow.  He works for the city and has cared for this garden for 20 years.

A cool cave the gardener showed me when he was taking me on a shortcut path to the top.

  1. Becky, I think you would do well as a tour guide and a travel photographer. Love your stuff.
