Let's Eat Out

Hummus and pita bread are side dishes at virtually every meal, or they are part of the meal itself, with shuarma or falafel.

A variety of "salads" ordered to share at a restaurant in Bethlehem.

A grilled meat mixture in a Bethlehem restaurant.  Grilled chicken, lamb, and beef meatballs.

A variety of pizzas offered for lunch in an Israeli deli shop.  To make their food kosher, they never mix meat with dairy products.  So you can never order a meat pizza or a cheeseburger.  Amy says the pizza doesn't taste like we're used to.  Corn is one of the topping options!

Mom wanted me to photograph this pizza covered in sesame seeds.

A chocolate swirled pastry Joni, Jackson, and I enjoyed. Yum.  Not as sweet as it would be in the USA, which is typical here.

What is that!  We still don't remember the name of it, but I had to try it.  The man told us it tastes like an orange, but we're thinking it looks like a cross between a lemon and a grapefruit.  It's huge.

Joni and I enjoying shuarma, a fun lamb dish.  They cook it on a big rod and then slice it off for each person's order.  This restaurant let us fill our own pitas with the lamb and many side dishes like hummus, a vinegary cabbage salad, a cold potato salad, a parsley and cous cous dish, pickles, chopped tomatoes and cucumbers, and they put French fries inside their pita sandwiches!

Mom and Amy enjoying their shuarma.

I tried a passion fruit slush at the museum of the 2,000 year-old boat.  Seeds and all!  Delicious and refreshing!
